Our directors for 2019 are Jason and Cate Caffarella who are active music educators in the Albany, Oregon area. They will conduct daily sessions including vocal technique, enhancing harmonic abilities, exploring a variety of a cappella music, and preparing for the final performance.
Jason and Cate Caffarella
Jason Caffarella currently teaches music at Linn Benton Community College, and is the founder of (and primary arranger for) the award-winning a cappella group, Rezonate. Rezonate won 3rd place at the Harmony Sweepstakes National Finals in 2009, where Jason also won the award for Best Arrangement. The group has placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd at the Pacific Northwest Regionals every year they have participated since 2008. Jason earned a B.S. in Voice from State University of New York at Fredonia and an M.M. in Choral Conducting from the University of Oregon. From 2001-2007 he directed choirs and small ensembles, including a cappella groups, in the Oregon Children’s Choir organization. He enjoys adjudicating vocal festivals of all kinds, including solo/ensemble, a cappella, and choral for age groups ranging from Middle School through college. Jason generally spends his summers on stage in the theater, performing in musicals; this past summer he had the privilege of portraying Henry Higgins in LAFTA’s production of My Fair Lady.
Cate is director at West Albany High School whose choirs consistently qualify for the OSAA state choir competitions in both the 5A and the 6A divisions and have placed in the top 5 several times. Her advanced A cappella Choir, Rhythmix, won the ICHSA semi-final two years ago and traveled to New York City to compete in the National Final.
